Overview
Supports the assigned unit by performing clerical duties such as secretarial, receptionist, and other designated activities. Provides indirect care following physician and nursing orders to achieve the highest standards of age/developmentally specific care.
Position Highlights:

Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Completion of a unit secretary course or equivalent preferred.
- Clerical experience preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clerical Duties: Complete clerical duties for patient scheduling, admissions, procedures, transfers, surgeries, discharges, and deaths under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Call Handling: Handle and screen incoming calls, transmit messages as necessary.
- Safe Environment: Contribute to a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers by following established procedures.
- Communication: Ensure complete, confidential, accurate, and timely communication of patient information.
- Data Entry: Complete requisitions, data entry, and nursing communication forms.
- Effective Communication: Communicate effectively with the team, co-workers, patients, and family members.
- Professional Growth: Take personal responsibility and initiative for performance, professional growth, and development.
- Efficiency: Conduct work in an organized, quiet, efficient manner, and demonstrate the ability to cope with stressful situations.
- Team Support: Complete assigned unit responsibilities and assist other staff members in completing their duties when time permits.
- Age-Specific Care: Provide age/developmentally appropriate patient care following guidelines for the specific age groups served.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform effectively with frequent workload changes and competing demands.
- Ability to develop transcription skills.
Work Environment:
- Interaction with multiple levels of staff and departments.
- Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
- Possible exposure to infections and contagious diseases.
- Subject to multiple interruptions.
- Long periods on a computer.
- Possible exposure to cleaning agents/chemicals.
- Occasionally subject to irregular hours
