Overview
JOB SUMMARY: The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) coordinates all activities of the FNE Program including developing, implementing, and evaluating the FNE program and providing oversight of SANE nurses. Responsibilities include maintaining the curriculum and ensuring evidence based practice. Accountabilities include improving the quality of care received by victims of violent crimes through direct and indirect patient care, providing professional and public education and consultation, maintaining standards and protocols, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Nursing required. Five years' experience in emergency department nursing in an academic medical center. Three years' experience as a sexual assault nurse examiner in the emergency department.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Current North Carolina Registered Nurse (RN) licensure. Completion of adult/adolescent and adolescent/pediatric sexual assault nurse examiners program. Clinical Forensic Nurse Certificate preferred. TNCC required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Develops, coordinates, and evaluates educational activities related to the FNE program. Functions in a teaching and collaborative role. Hires and orients to the FNE program. 2. Functions as a role model in patient care, provides a high level of clinical expertise by selecting and preparing nurses for the FNE role. 3. Develops and maintains departmental policies related to the FNE program. 4. Assists with the budgetary process for FNE budget including grants. 5. Maintains knowledge of current clinical concepts and evidence based practices. 6. Works collaboratively with law enforcement, Attorney Generals Office, and local victims services. 7. Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships within the Emergency Department throughout the organization. 8. Maintains current knowledge of regulatory standards, requirements and facilitates implementation and compliance. 9. Works within the community to enhance education on FNE program and violence prevention. 10. Acts as a 24 hour on-call resource to program participants. 11. Responsible for receiving and coordinating subpoenas directed to FNE team. 12. Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices, reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors. 13. Promotes professionalism, efficiency, and competency and cost containment within the FNE program.
