Overview

The Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM) is recognized as an international leader in translating scientific discovery into clinical therapies. Physicians and scientists at WFIRM were the first in the world to engineer laboratory-grown organs that were successfully implanted into humans. Today, this interdisciplinary team that numbers about 400 is working to engineer more than 40 different replacement tissues and organs, and to develop healing cell therapies – all with the goal to cure, rather than merely treat, disease. 

JOB SUMMARY

With limited supervision and in collaboration with the WFIRM leadership team, the education and outreach coordinator utilizes administrative skills to coordinate and manage projects within WFIRM’s education and philanthropy program portfolio. Manage associated events for the education, philanthropy, and intellectual property programs. Must be adept at using available technology for development and delivery of materials.  Use experience and education to maintain the daily needs of the educational, philanthropic and the intellectual properties of WFIRM.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  1. Associate of Arts Degree and a minimum of five (5) years' related business/coordination and planning experience. Bachelors preferred. 
  2. Experience in department to be served preferred. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Work with WFIRM Chief Educational Officer to coordinate, and implement educational programs, events and curriculum resources pertinent to WFIRM mission and goals; coordinate and assist in the management of project plans and timelines, tracking budget, goals  and key milestones; manage application processes, registrations, communications, meetings and activities, contract negotiations as assigned, speaker arrangements and catering needs for educational programs; and assist and/or represent leader in meetings as needed.
  2. Work with the WFIRM Chief Philanthropic Officer in preparation, development, and submission of proposals and reports for external and internal communications. Provides support for the Institute Philanthropic Advisory Group, their philanthropy projects, events and communication, including meeting preparation and attendance, notes, follow up, and response to day to day requests for information and assistance.  Manage long-term relationships with grass roots donors providing information and assistance as needed; assist in the receipt and timely booking, acknowledgement, reporting and stewardship of all gifts. Manages the Chief Philanthropic Officer’s (CPO) calendar needs, meetings, donor visits, and travel. Significant correspondence required. Works with the Institute Director’s support personnel to schedule philanthropic meetings, presentations, manage calendar needs, and donor travel and visits that involve the Director. Coordinates as needed with Medical Center philanthropy office. 
  3. Work with WFIRM Chief Intellectual Property Officer to coordinate communications,  schedule meetings, organization of lab journals, and manage information for the WFIRM intellectual property team.
  4. Meeting planner and manager for education and philanthropy events; manage volunteer activities for education, philanthropy, and intellectual property events. 
  5. Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

  • Advanced computer skills (including Microsoft Office applications, internet and email, graphics and multimedia, spreadsheets and databases and Blackbaud (philanthropic donor software)
  • Strong presentation skills to effectively persuade and influence to achieve desired outcomes with diverse clientele
  • Understand the fundraising process to include prospect identification, evaluation, qualification, cultivation, and solicitation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and resiliency skills, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Able to work in a complex and political environment with faculty/physicians.
  • Willingness to travel nationally.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
