Overview

Major Responsibilities:

  • Compensation and Benefits: Provides strategic & operational leadership related to the design of the total rewards programs that meet team member needs, support a compelling value proposition for employment at Advocate Health, and drive engagement. Total reward strategies must position Advocate Health competitively in the market, demonstrate desired outcomes, and anticipate industry trends consistent with our compensation and benefit market strategy.
  • Governance and Compliance: With the Chief People and Culture Officer, provide staff support to key governance committees to facilitate transparency and effective decision making, including Benefits Administrative Committee and Compensation, Benefits and Equity Committee of the Board. Provides expert counsel to senior leadership on total rewards issues and governance requirements. Ensures total rewards programs are compliant with all applicable laws, regulations and qualifies for the rebuttable presumption of reasonableness. Manages audits, reporting, and other processes required to demonstrate compliance and manage risk. Work with our external consultants to assure effective support of our compensation and governance processes and practices.
  • Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
  • Drives the evolving enterprise integration strategy for Total Rewards including harmonizing multiple large scale total rewards programs.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.
  • Reviews and approves Total Rewards programs, including job and pay structures, market analysis, merit process, incentive programs, benefit programs and compensation activities.
  • Provides guidance to senior leadership on total rewards and HR programs & guidelines.
  • Collaborates with Finance and senior leadership to prioritize and approve Total Rewards needs, budget and spend.
  • Oversees the management of all relevant consultant and vendor relationships, including consultant and vendor selection and renewal decisions.
  • Establishes, reviews, approves metrics and measures for Total Rewards effectiveness and recommends improvement plans.
  • Evaluates and approves all relevant innovative solutions and technologies to enhance operational effectiveness while reducing costs.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • None Required.

Education Required:

Master's degree in Business or related field preferred
Bachelor’s degree required
 

Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 10 years of management experience in leading multiple HR functions. Experience in a large integrated healthcare delivery system preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing, facilitating and leading compensation, benefit and human capital management strategies and initiatives which align with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated success in large-scale Total Rewards transformations
  • Thorough knowledge of ethical guidelines, professional standards and federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting human resources management.
  • Experience integrating and harmonizing total rewards programs spanning all levels of large enterprises
  • Skills and experience in developing strategic and tactical plans to meet business objectives in a large organization. Proven ability to develop sound proposals and successfully implement program/project plans.
  • Knowledge of and skills in other Human Resource management functions such as employment, employee relations and employee/organizational development. Ability to integrate this knowledge and skill into the development and administration of effective compensation programs/procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and function in a complex corporate system environment. Excellent communication skills to work and collaborate effectively with all levels of employees, such as staff/management/executives/other organizations and to address difficult and controversial issues.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suites or similar products.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • This position requires travel, therefore, will be exposed to weather and road conditions.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Exposed to a normal office environment.
