Job Summary

Manages the acquisition, distribution and management of the market medical supplies and equipment in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Directs and oversees the materials management and distribution services.

Essential Functions

Strategic participation with operations management staff in formulating and administering Supply Chain Operations policies and procedures as well as the development of long-range goals and annual operational plans and objectives. This includes interaction with regional and enterprise leaders to develop and execute on supply chain initiatives.Ensures that supplies, stock and non-stock, for all facilities in assigned market are purchased through the right sources, maximizing contract compliance through Advocate Health Supply Chain Alliance contracts. Regularly monitors contract compliance to ensure objective is being met.

  • Ensures that the necessary controls and reports to ensure Acquisition processes are efficient.
  • Manages the contract negotiation, implementation, contract communication, and monitoring of all Carolinas Shared Services pharmacy contracts.
  • Ensures contract pricing as negotiated directly by Carolinas Shared Services is passed on rapidly and effectively to the pharmacy wholesaler so the contract price is accessible to all participants rapidly.
  • Serves as Carolinas Shared Services representative on the Pharmacy COB.
  • Develops and maintains close communications with pharmacy managers when developing and identifying opportunities for bids.
  • Ensures that pharmacy departments are regularly provided updates on these contracts.
  • Utilizes wholesaler reports to ensure commitments from Carolinas Shared Services participants are being met. Identifies those participating pharmacies that are not in compliance with contract so actions may be taken toward resolution.
  • Strategic participation with operations management staff in formulating and administering Supply Chain Operations and Surgical & Specialty Services Supply Chain policies and development of long-range goals and annual operational plans and objectives. 
  • This includes interaction with Regional and Enterprise leaders to develop and execute on supply chain initiatives.
  • Establish realistic operational goals and feasible supporting tactics in company business plans.
     
  • Develops reportable key performance indicators for Supply Chain Operations and the Surgical & Specialty Services Supply Chain.
  • Identify and drive execution of continuous improvement opportunities within facility-based 
    Supply Chain Operations.
  • Aggressively lead the market-wide consistent execution of the Supply Chain "embedded model" including identification/ implementation of best practices, implementation and development of standardized policy and procedures, and implementation of supply cost reduction strategies/opportunities
  • Facilitate cross-functional communications and education/training to improve supply chain efficiency, performance, and effectiveness across the organization.
  • Participates in company-level budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Provides daily direction to direct reports of Director and Manager level professionals, works closely with other departments including: Clinical Operations, Education and Communications,
    Human Resources, Pharmacy Operations, Supply Chain Financial Operations, Supply Chain Data Analytics, Supply Expense Management, Strategic Sourcing, Support Services (Environmental Services, Food and Nutrition Services), and Warehousing and Logistics

 

Physical Requirements

Work requires sitting at desk for prolonged periods of time while working at the computer or on telephone. Requires the ability to deal effectively with the business partners or internal customers, promoting a positive image for the System. Includes travel to participating GPO facilities and affiliate sites.

 

Education, Experience and Certifications

Bachelor degree required; Master's degree preferred. At least seven years in hospital purchasing and materials management experience required.
