This position supports faculty in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating required academic clerkships for a specific department. Acts as a student advisor, advocate and policy expert for the clerkship. Responsible for the day-to-day management of the specific clerkship, will be the primary contact for all students regarding undergraduate medical education and will serve as a liaison with the course director, other educators and institutional administration.

Education/Experience/Certifications to Qualify:   

  • Associate's degree with two years of medical education administration experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Bachelor's degree preferred. 

Essential Functions:  

  • Interfaces with faculty in all clinical departments to ensure consistency across required clerkships with regard to LCME directives and the mission of the Medical School. 
  • Assists the Clerkship Director and staff in developing systems to achieve required consistency across the program. 
  • Assists the Director in reviewing courses on a regular basis to determine any areas requiring improvement. Helps identify issues and develops/implements new processes. 
  • Assists the Director in providing direction to faculty to improve identified issues. 
  • Assists in the development of systems to ensure consistency in such areas as student rotations, clerkship orientation, student evaluation by faculty and residents, and scheduling of conferences and lectures. 
  • Addresses professional development needs for individuals and work with the Clerkship Director to develop the necessary training tools. 
  • Helps design administrative and organizational work procedures and methods necessary to administer multi-faceted educational experiences. 
  • Helps conduct extensive reviews and analyses of courses. Provides required and ad hoc reports related to the variety of courses. 
  • Administers and implements all program components. Requires clear and continuous communication with faculty and staff. Acts as a liaison between the Director and school. 
  • Works closely with administration teams in coordinating clerkship activities, such as retreats and LCME reviews. 
  • Provides advice and counsel to students regarding schedules and curriculum. Meets with and advises students who are applying to internal medicine residency program and coordinates letters of recommendation.
