Overview

The Monitor Technician, functioning as administrative support under the Director, monitors telemetry on a continuous basis and documents rhythms in accordance with policy and procedure. This individual provides clerical support and maintains a clean, safe and quiet environment in support of patient comfort and contentment. The Monitor Technician may perform duties associated with certain sections and unit departments within the hospital and promotes the practice of family-centered care. He/she works cooperatively with the medical and other hospital staff who support the care of the adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

EDUCATION REQUIRED 

High School Diploma or equivalent 

Completion of competency checklist for position within 90 days 

EDUCATION PREFERRED  

None 

 
LICENSURES OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED 

Completion of CPR Course B/Heartsaver within 1 year 

Completion of Basic Arrhythmia Course 

Monitor Technician Certification Course and test 

Certified Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic 

LICENSURES OR CERTIFICATIONS REFERRED  

BCLS

ROLE SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Assists with orienting new employees and students to Cardiac Monitoring/Telemetry. 

Maintains all hospital computer systems applicable to Cardiac Monitoring/Telemetry. 

Maintains clinical competency based on established standards of practice. 

Meets departments and organizational standards for productivity and efficiency. 

Seeks guidance and direction as necessary for performance of duties. 

Adheres to all infection prevention guidelines. 

Primary responsibility to monitor patient’s heart rhythms and promptly identify/notify any rhythm changes to the appropriate healthcare team members. 

Document any and all necessary information regarding patient rhythms, monitoring interruptions or removal. 

Maintains telemetry monitoring system.
