Overview

Job Summary: 

The Winston-Salem Children’s Developmental Services Agency (W-S CDSA) is the local lead agency for the NC Infant-Toddler Program (NC ITP), a federally mandated program (Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) serving children with/at risk for developmental disabilities and their families. The primary purpose of this position is to provide eligibility evaluations, child and family assessments, service coordination, and coaching/ education with families of children 0-3 years old referred and/ or enrolled within the NC Infant-Toddler Program (NCITP).  Staff member will follow mandated timelines and documentation for enrollment, development and maintenance of Individualized Family Services Plans (IFSP), ensure provision of intervention supports/services, and coordinate transition planning leading up to the child’s third birthday. Competitive salary and excellent benefits.

Education / Experience:  Graduation from an appropriately accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Birth-Kindergarten Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Special Education, Education, Child Development, Family Studies, Family and Consumer Sciences, Counseling, Human Development, Psychology, Social-Work, Nursing, and other Human Service fields. Two years of pre or post-degree related full-time experience working with children birth- five years old. OR, Master’s degree in same areas of study and one year of full-time experience.

 Reports To:  Developmental Specialist Supervisor or Social Work Supervisor 

Essential Functions:

  • Provide targeted case management/service coordination based on NCITP requirements. 
  • Ensure family procedural safeguards, meeting federal and state required timelines, compliance indicators, and paperwork for all service coordination activities.
  • Responsible for explaining and ensuring child and family rights as it relates to all NCITP policies and procedures. 
  • Responsible for gathering and completing family directed evaluations and assessments.     
  • Facilitates and participates in team meetings by developing and monitoring the Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP).
  • Utilize a coaching interaction style and natural learning environment practices to provide family education and assist in accessing supports and resources. 
  • Prepare families for transitioning out of the NCITP when the child turns three years old.
  • Ensure all documentation is in compliance with State and Federal guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Considerable knowledge of child development, family dynamics, developmental disabilities, and factors which place infant/toddlers at risk for developmental delays.
  • Experience writing treatment or educational family services plans.  Experience working with community support systems and resources.
  • Communicate and collaborate using interpersonal skills which are respectful and sensitive with respect to a diverse and multicultural population of children, families, coworkers, and other professionals. 
  • Soundness of judgment and skills in problem-solving, mediation, conflict resolution, and teamwork. 
  • Individual must be able to independently drive to homes of clients in Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin. Mileage is reimbursed at the IRS rate.
  • Computer literacy skills are required.
  • Fluency in Spanish is desirable.
