Overview
JOB SUMMARY:
Manages daily operations of a large residency program. Performs continual program monitoring to ensure balance between residency clinical obligations, educational program requirements, accreditation, and individual resident needs.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree plus one year experience in the field or a related area; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides administrative direction and coordination in the development, interpretation, implementation, and administration of current and long-range education and accreditation initiatives in accordance with national accreditation guidelines. Makes recommendations to Program Director for educational initiatives.
2. Optimizes clinical staffing (residents and faculty) to cover all operating room sites by analyzing demand and availability of physicians on a daily basis; plans projections up to six months in advance.
3. Plans and conducts departmental orientation for incoming residents; provides training on departmental guidelines, procedures and systems. Facilitates and tracks ongoing required training and compliance.
4. Represents department leaders in meetings, conferences, and other affairs of an administrative nature; negotiates and makes decisions in areas delegated on behalf of departmental leadership.
5. Establishes major schedules, task assignments and allocation of resident manpower, space and equipment to ensure conformance with departmental commitments and in adherence to accreditation standards.
6. Makes decisions on specific operational problems in accordance with departmental and institutional policies and procedures.
7. Plans and coordinates construction, renovation and maintenance activities within or related to the residency workspaces and call rooms.
8. Interfaces with faculty, students, and staff; answer inquiries and provides authoritative information.
9. Supervises and coordinates various personnel functions for residents and fellows, including: preparation of employment contracts and appointment letters; absence reporting; institutional training coordination; coordination of credentialing with Forsyth Medical Center; access coordination; FMLA paperwork; and approval of time off requests.
10. Makes budgetary recommendations to Program Director. Monitors, verifies, and reconciles expenditure of budgeted funds.
