Overview
The PICU at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital is a 10-bed intensive care unit that will expand to 24 beds in late August 2024. This expansion will allow us to better support our most complex and critical care children. The new unit offers a layout that supports visibility of every patient, easy access to our patients, and continues care with the most advanced technology available. While designing the unit, supporting our families was a key element; we have expanded our family lounge, allowing for pods for families to sit together and take breaks from the bedside, and each of our rooms will now have a full bathroom for our families to use. The new unit also offers a calming yet modernized layout that will encourage wellbeing for our patients and families but also our teammates. With Atrium Health Levine's Children Hospital being the only Level 1 Pediatric trauma center in the greater Charlotte region our PICU offers the full range of advanced care capabilities including ECMO, CRRT, Aquadex, organ transplant, pulmonary support through all forms of advanced ventilation, neurosurgical procedures, hematology-oncology, and trauma services. Nurses on our unit can benefit from continuous knowledge expansion through gaining an understanding of the pathophysiology and management of the often-seen diagnoses of ... ARDS, COVID-19, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Hydrocephalus, seizures, sepsis, unstable or new CIPAP/BIPAP, new trachs, and any other conditions where the patient is seriously compromised or needs critical care services.
Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH) has taken the community to another level of service to provide care for the growing population of children in our region.
