Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and skilled LIS Coordinator to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital role in collaborating with laboratory operational management to optimize our laboratory information system and support quality management to ensure efficient, accurate, and high-quality services for our patients. Candidates with strong understanding of anatomic pathology workflows and Epic Beaker are strongly preferred and should possess strong critical, deductive, and inferential thinking skills with a drive for continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or a biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited college/university 
  • Minimum of five years of relevant clinical laboratory experience 
  • Two years of experience with EPIC Beaker in an anatomic pathology laboratory 
  • Previous experience in laboratory informatics or information technology strongly preferred
  • Technologist/Scientist/Specialist ASCP certification or equivalent required 

The Successful Candidate will assume responsibility for a variety of functions, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Designs, develops, and implements complex computer systems to meet departmental organizational goals, including but not limited to collaborating with laboratory staff and IT departments to analyze laboratory workflows, understand customer needs, and identify opportunities for system optimization; configuring and customizing LIS settings to meet specific laboratory needs, including test definitions, reporting formats, and data integration; maintaining accurate and up-to-date system documentation to ensure maintainability of code; maintaining working knowledge of programming languages, development tools, and database tools to ensure efficient development; and ensuring compliance with Medical Center IT and regulatory standards.
  • Develops, provides, and maintains user documentation and training materials for laboratory personnel on LIS functionality specific to anatomic pathology.
  • Performs system testing and validation for new software versions and upgrades, ensuring smooth integration with existing workflows.
  • Monitors systems performance and troubleshoots any technical issues to ensure accurate, optimal, and efficient performance and minimal customer disruption, providing on-call support as needed.
  • Generates reports and analyzes data to identify trends and improve laboratory quality and efficiency.
  • Stays current on industry best practices and emerging technologies related to LIS and anatomic pathology and improves technical and professional skills through self-study and continuing education.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between customers and Medical Center IT teams to provide quality customer service and meet the needs of the Laboratory and the Medical Center.
  • Assists laboratory personnel and faculty with service desk tickets and assures timely and satisfactory resolution of open tickets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
