Overview
JOB SUMMARY:
Provides counseling services for patients on the Burn/Trauma Service. Services include support, screenings, and brief interventions for the patients, as well as psychoeducation for patients and caregivers. Coordinates and collaborates with the other healthcare providers to improve patient care and recovery.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health or related field with one year of clinical experience required.
Basic and advanced counseling skills including crisis intervention preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Meets with patients in the Trauma, BICU and on the Burn floor to provide cognitive and emotional support surrounding their mental and physical injuries and recovery.
2. Administers PC-PTSD, CTSQ, audit and CAGE screenings to appropriate patients.
3. Documents patient information, sessions, screening results, and interventions,
4. Finds and provides necessary psychoeducational resources to patients and their caregivers.
5. Makes referrals for patients in need of post-hospitalization mental health support.
6. Engages in supervision of clinical concerns, skills, and professional development.
7. Participates in weekly interdisciplinary meetings to communicate psycho-social issues that impact patient health condition/status.
8. Meets monthly with peer-support group of burn survivors.
9. Assists in department research, including conducting and transcribing patient interviews.
10. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
