What You’ll Need:

  • High School Diploma or GED General Studies
  • Successful completion of a North Carolina Board of Nursing Aide I approved training program/competency evaluation 
  • Nurse Aide I Registration Division of Facility Services Nurse Aide I Registry 
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Preferred:   Prior experience

 

Job Specific Duties

  • Patient Observation: Observe/report patient appearance, behavior, care responses. Monitor urine/stool/drainage and report issues. Check IV therapy and report disruptions/disconnections/swelling or pain. Report skin issues and perform necessary treatments. Monitor equipment function and report malfunctions. Report abnormal vital signs and behavior changes.
  • Patient Info & Documentation: Document vital signs, fluid intake/output, height/weight. Record diet/activity/observations/treatments. Collect specimens as directed by the nurse.
  • Patient Care: Maintain safe, organized patient environment. Prioritize patient care/delegated treatments, assist with elimination activities, hygiene, and therapeutic measures. Turn/reposition bedfast patients every two hours. Provide 1:1 monitoring.
  • Dietary Assistance: Prepare/assist with meals, document food intake. Provide fluids as directed.
  • Transfer/Discharge: Assist in admission/transfer/discharge, assist with ambulation, and use lifts as needed.
  • Patient Environment: Maintain cleanliness, change linens, obtain/return supplies.
  • Call Lights: Respond to call lights.
  • Teamwork & Support: Assist with pre/post-operative care, surgical preps, and post-mortem care. Complete assigned tasks and report to oncoming Nursing Assistant.
  • Customer Focus: Provide excellent customer service, communicate well, be timely and professional. Promote the department positively.
  • Meetings & Updates: Attend unit meetings, participate in continuing education. Stay informed about hospital communications.
  • Professionalism: Maintain professional relationships, adhere to department rules, practice teamwork, and follow Standards of Behavior.
  • Other Duties: Perform assigned tasks as directed by management.

     

Physical and Behavioral Requirements:

 

  • Lift, carry, and push heavy objects.
  • Perform bending, squatting, and standing tasks.
  • Use visual acuity for reading and documentation.
  • Maintain a sense of smell for safety.
  • Utilize a sense of touch to evaluate vital signs.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and audibly.
