Overview

JOB SUMMARY: Under supervision, schedules patient appointments, performs check-out duties, and handles higher-level tasks such as TES duties, medical coding, and financial coordination. Ensures smooth patient care coordination.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent plus three years clerical experience, including six months at the Patient Scheduling Coordinator level or equivalent.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Completion of certification program required. BCLS certification needed within 30 days of hire.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Schedules patient appointments using judgment and discretion. Follows Clinical Operations standards.
  2. Coordinates laboratory work and diagnostic testing for patients.
  3. Makes daily judgments over the phone regarding patient appointments.
  4. Coordinates complex tasks among physicians, patients, nurses, and testing labs.
  5. Coordinates testing for inpatients.
  6. Ensures patient charts are prepared before visits.
  7. Handles patient inquiries and resolves issues.
  8. Assists in training less experienced personnel.
  9. Processes TES files and performs medical coding.
  10. Coordinates surgeries and obtains precertification.
  11. Handles financial duties such as insurance authorization and billing assistance.
  12. Completes required educational programs and certifications.
  13. Performs other related duties as needed.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of third-party payer requirements and coding.
  • Data entry accuracy of 5000 kph with 3% or less error rate.
  • Ability to work independently in a clinical setting.
  • Experience with IDX, Medipac, and LastWord.
  • Strong customer service focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Well-lit, well-ventilated medical office environment.
