Overview

JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs patient scheduling and check-out duties. Also responsible for higher-level tasks such as transaction editing system (TES) duties, medical coding, lead responsibilities, and financial coordination.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three years of clerical experience, including six months at the Patient Scheduling Coordinator level or equivalent

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:

  • Must complete certification program and maintain accuracy standards
  • BCLS certification required within 30 days of hire

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Schedule clinical appointments for new and returning patients using the IDX system, prioritizing with discretion.
  2. Coordinate extensive laboratory work and diagnostic testing for patients.
  3. Make judgments over the phone regarding patient appointment urgency.
  4. Coordinate among physicians, patients, nurses, and testing laboratories to ensure necessary tests are performed and paperwork completed.
  5. Coordinate inpatient testing.
  6. Prepare patient charts prior to visits.
  7. Address inquiries, issues, and complaints, practicing excellent customer service.
  8. Assist in training less experienced personnel.
  9. Process TES files and perform medical coding.
  10. Coordinate surgeries, obtain precertification, and ensure patients have necessary information.
  11. Perform financial duties such as insurance authorization and billing assistance.
  12. Complete required educational programs and attend departmental meetings.
  13. Perform other related duties as necessary.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of third-party payer requirements and basic ICD-9 and CPT coding
  • Data entry accuracy of 5000 kph with a 3% or less error rate
  • Ability to work independently in a clinical setting
  • Ability to multitask
  • Experience with IDX, Medipac, and LastWord
  • Experience with managed care or health insurance companies
  • Strong customer service focus

  • Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching with arms, finger and hand dexterity, talking, hearing
