Overview
JOB SUMMARY:
Examine, diagnose, treat, and manage disorders of the visual system, eye diseases, and injuries. Prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses as needed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) from an accredited School of Optometry and 3 years of practical Optometrist experience.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:
Licensed optometrist in good standing in the State of North Carolina.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide outpatient care for patients with eye-related disorders and conditions 2. Conduct routine eye examinations, including visual field tests 3. Determine each patient?s visual acuity, field of vision and hand-eye coordination 4. Take detailed medical histories for all patients, including current and past prescription medications 5. Evaluate eye-related symptoms, such as discharge, redness and inflammation 6. Prescribe corrective lenses when required 7. Refer patients to board-certified ophthalmologists when required for more holistic eye care 8. Educate patients on proper eye care 9. Identify eye health safety factors that could impact vision, such as working around chemicals or in front of a computer 10. Advise patients about proper eye hygiene and care

Excellent customer service and organization skills. Advanced time management skills. Ability to diagnose and treat eye-related disorders and conditions Ability to make sound and timely decisions . Ability to cooperate and work well with others
