The Department of Anesthesiology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the next Vice Chair for Research. With a unified data structure, electronic medical record and IRB across all 69 hospitals of Advocate Health System, this is a unique opportunity to leverage the strength of the enterprise in data extraction, large registries and clinical trials networks. The department enjoys a strong national and international reputation and is a consistently sought after clinical trials site across a range of subspecialties. In addition, the faculty includes several exceptionally well-funded individuals with a strong track record of scholarship that has impacted the practice of anesthesiology, critical care and pain medicine.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with department and institutional leaders to enhance the department's research infrastructure. 
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan to secure extramural research funding. 
  • Build and support a pipeline of independently funded clinical and basic science investigators. 
  • Lead and coordinate research activities across the department, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. 
  • Establish a robust mentoring program for junior faculty and trainees, guiding them toward research independence. 
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and promote research integrity.

Qualifications 

  • M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent advanced degree currently at the rank of associate professor or professor. 
  • Board eligible or board certified in Anesthesiology or allied field. 
  • Eligibility for licensure in the state of North Carolina. 
  • A proven track record of research leadership and securing extramural funding in an academic health system. 
  • Experience in mentoring and developing research faculty and trainees. 
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
