Charge Nurse, NICU 

Winston-Salem, NC  

  

Embark on a rewarding journey as a Charge Nurse (full time, nights) for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. 

  

Position Highlights:  

    

  • Shift Schedule:  Full time, Nights, 7pm – 7am, with weekend rotation  
  • Department: NICU
  • Location:  Winston Salem Campus

What You’ll Need:  

  

  • Graduation from accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.  
  • Two years’ experience in nursing required.
  • Registered Nurse licensure from the State of North Carolina Board of Nursing  
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required   
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 1 year of hire, per unit guidelines   
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 1 year of hire, per unit guidelines

How You’ll Impact Patient Care:  

 

You will offer guidance, coordination, and assistance to the patient care unit during specified shifts. You’ll also assume responsibility for ensuring high-quality care delivery, patient progression, and service excellence, and fostering a positive workplace environment. You will collaborate closely with the Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager to drive initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of care provided.

  

  

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:   

  • Leading coordination of nursing care across disciplines, promoting seamless integration of services. Collaborating with PLAC for timely and appropriate patient placement.
  • Fostering effective collaboration through building collegial relationships and clear communication. Serving as a resource and encouraging open communication among staff and departments.
  • Championing a culture of safety for patients, self, colleagues, and the facility in conjunction with the Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager. Facilitates the Care Delivery Model by monitoring quality and safety outcomes, implementing improvement measures. Ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Ensuring care respects patient rights and preferences while maintaining confidentiality and security for patients and staff. Resolving conflicts, collaborating with Service Excellence for service recovery, and empowering staff through shared governance.
  • Collaborating with Nurse Manager to monitor staffing and supplies. Optimizing care provision by aligning workload and resources with industry benchmarks and patient needs to optimize the provision of quality, cost effective care. Facilitating and monitoring the appropriate utilization of staff based on credentialing, education and experience.
  • Creating an environment conducive to ongoing staff development based on Shared Governance and Theory of Human Caring principles and professional practice. Fostering relationships to enhance care delivery and patient and staff satisfaction through a professional practice environment of mutual respect.
  • Demonstrating value for professional nursing practice including the utilization of current standards, the nursing process and patient advocacy. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, taking responsibility for continuing education, developing best practices and maintaining the highest level of patient care and staff development. 
  • Fostering a patient centered professional work environment through the implementation of Caring Science, the nursing process, staff development and collaborative team interactions for the enhancement of the quality of patient care. 
  • Ensuring/providing appropriate patient care in accordance with specific patient population. Demonstrating and utilizing knowledge of the needs of the patient population specific to the defined clinical area. Maintaining competency related to patient population and identifying strategies to meet related needs.
