Overview
JOB SUMMARY: An experienced Registered Nurse who is critical to the facilitation of patient flow from internal entry points and outside hospitals into the Comprehensive Cancer Center. This position requires critical thinking skills, an operational knowledge of the services provided by the Medical Center, and the ability to act as a liaison between the Medical Center and referring hospitals. Responsibilities include facilitating appropriate placement of patients by planning, coordinating, and expediting the patient throughput throughout all Comprehensive Cancer Center clinical areas, using a multidisciplinary team approach to collaborate successfully with medical staff, hospital employees and referring physicians. Since the department is open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, this position is severe weather critical and may be required to work a flexible schedule.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing for registered nurses, BSN preferred. Three years of oncology experience. Varied experience preferred, especially oncology clinic areas and/or inpatient units.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of North Carolina required. Valid driver license required. BCLS certification required. Oncology Nursing certification required or must obtain within first year of hire.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Adheres to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
2. Serves as the liaison between the medical staff of the referring facility and the medical staff of WFBH to ensure an efficient patient flow process within the Oncology service line.
3. Collaborates with oncology charge nurses/clinical coordinators to facilitate a plan for patient flow based on the needs of the patient.
4. Collaborates with team in the Patient Flow Operations Center to ensure appropriate and timely placement of patients both internal and external to the organization.
5. Demonstrates a proactive approach in accommodating all referral requests.
6. Interacts with coworkers in an effective, positive and professional manner to encourage a cohesive work environment.
7. Demonstrates responsibility for professional and personal development.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent customer service skills Experience in multidisciplinary team collaboration Excellent telephone speaking voice and listening skills Excellent knowledge of the nursing process and critical thinking skills Basic computer skills with ability to navigate within multiple screens comfortably. Typing speed of 35 wpm minimum Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
