Overview
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the efficient collection, storage, reporting of clinical data. Communicates and collaborates openly and effectively with organizational leaders, physicians, clinical staff, software developers and colleagues within the CT department, as well as external departments, to provide data reflecting the practice of the Heart and Vascular (STS focused) . Results are used to review methods and trends in patient care, procedure volumes, complications, mortality/morbidity, etc.
This position will be based in Winston Salem, but cover both Winston Salem and High Point campuses.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides leadership from a clinical expertise perspective as it related to cardiovascular systems and software support pertaining to special projects and departmental operations.
2. Collects, evaluates and validates all designated information for the Cardiovascular Databases by obtaining data from hospital's electronic medical records and patient charts.
3. Provides clinical data expertise and consulting for quality improvement and research projects.
4. Creates reports, participates in software development, end-user training, software support and process management.
5. Maintains a knowledge of the cardiovascular database as it pertains to data element for use in defining and creating ad-hoc reports using tools such as MS Excel and Crystal Reports.
6. Generates condensed versions of the outcomes reports received from the national registries such as the STS and ACC. These highlight important data that is presented to QI/QA forums such as the CAB workgroup, Cardiology Mortality and Morbidity Conference, etc.
7. Interacts with CVIS department staff, other Cardiology Diagnostics Service Line staff members and vendors as it pertains to the collection and reporting process.
8. Communicates and educates other members of Heart Center Service Line; i.e. Cath Lab, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Ultrasound, Heart Station, etc., to ensure that the data collected adheres to National Registry guidelines.
9. Trains users on the Cardiovascular Database, Data Definitions and Procedures.
10. Actively communicates with national data registry on items such as data validity, data definitions, software versions, submission due dates, frequently asked questions, etc.
11. Maintains expertise in current trends in respective clinical areas. Attends workshops, seminars and professional educational offerings related to respective clinical areas.
12. Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Expertise in word processing, use of spreadsheet software and development of presentations.
Strong communication skills including written, listening, verbal and presentation style.
Strong organizational skills.
Basic statistics, graphical analysis and charting knowledge and experience.
Knowledge of relational databases, queries and ad-hoc report generation.
Able to interact well with staff members at all levels of the Heart Center Service Line.
Works independently and as a member of a project team Strong customer service skills
