Overview

Job Summary

Conducts technical research procedures and provides support to primary investigators, research scientists, fellows, residents, and the laboratory manager.

Essential Functions

  • Performs human subject and animal subject research following GCP and GLP practices.
  • Monitors care of research animals assists with surgical and technical procedures.
  • Maintains cultures.
  • Performs routine and specific laboratory functions, monitors and maintains laboratory analytical equipment and supplies.
  • Performs data collection, storage, and analysis, including operation, use of and troubleshooting of equipment and software programs.
  • Provides technical support in analysis, preparation, and storage of departmental research data.
  • Updates laboratory and surgical procedures as needed.
  • Assists in instructing personnel in the proper use of laboratory equipment and procedures.
  • Assists in drafting, editing, and amending IRB, IACUC, and IBC protocols.
  • Provides technical support to the research director, research investigators, and laboratory manager.

Physical Requirements

Works in a fast-paced office and laboratory. Requires long periods of standing, sitting, walking, and some lifting. Interacts with persons at several professional levels, including technicians, students, residents, fellows, faculty, and other support staff. Requires handling of laboratory animals. Responsibility to work in a safe manner.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Minimum of Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Science with 5 years of experience or master’s degree with 3 years of experience.  Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
