What You'll Do: Manages complex duties encompassing all financial aspects of insurance benefit information, authorization, billing, and collections for various transplant services. Oversees all insurance types throughout the transplant process, from evaluation to post-transplant. Leads and supports the transplant financial team, serves patients and families, collaborates with clinical staff, physicians, and insurance companies, and engages with transplant and leadership stakeholders.

  1. Leads team of professionals to meet objectives of the transplant center.
  2. Manages multiple, complex projects using all available resources, exercises good independent judgment.
  3. Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the field particularly as it relates to transplant and payment reform.
  4. Focuses on teammate development; coaches and educates team in transplant related areas.
  5. Manages departmental response to customers.
  6. Reviews, monitors and researches insurance benefits, options and potential patient financial needs and discusses their findings with patients and their families. Reports findings to the transplant selection committee.
  7. Reviews and develops resolutions to potential patient financial out-of-pocket exposure due to transplantation. Works with patients on these resolutions and helps them plan and overcome these obstacles.
  8. Reviews and obtains all necessary payor authorizations for all aspects of the transplant process. Verifies and monitors transplant coverage and other medical benefits and acquires necessary referrals and authorizations. Ensures that all payor approvals are current at all times.
  9. Coordinates and manages the billing and collection functions for all payor types.
  10. Works with our contracting department when CMC doesn’t participate in a contract and tries to establish a single case agreement. Follows up on these payors and assists our contracting department in contracting with the payor.
  11. Performs comprehensive review to ensure correct reimbursement on all transplant professional and facility accounts.
  12. Develops and maintains statistical reports of all transplant programs and provides assistance to leadership with practice/divisional specific reporting needs.
  13. Participates in a financial analysis of specific departments, functions, etc. as needed.
  14. Retrieves any clinical data required by third party payors and makes data available to payers in a timely manner.
  15. Ensures all pre-billing and donor billing are prepared accurately and timely.
  16. Oversees Excel spreadsheets and databases that track the status of transplant patients and to ensure proper payments are made to internal and external providers. Generates and distributes weekly and monthly reports.
  17. Facilitates resolution of patient billing issues and investigates and assists in reconciling discrepancies.
  18. Serves as liaison for the accounting services, managed health resources, patient accounting, patient registration departments and outside physician groups and provides appropriate data.


What You'll Need:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required. 
  • 3 years’ of reimbursement experience in a hospital setting is preferred. 
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, HBOC STAR and IDX experience required.  

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with Databases, hospital registration, billing and clinical systems preferred.

The ideal candidate will also possess the following skills:

  • Works independently and possess strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to prepare and analyze financial reports required. 
  • Proficient with medical terminology
  • Be familiar with clinical considerations as these relate to transplant cases required. 
  • Extensive analytical skills and focus on details
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Strong knowledge of transplant insurance and transplant financial coordination
  • Strong mathematical skills 
  • Knowledge of personal computers, peripheral devices, PCS software application 
  • Strong spreadsheet applications and word processing skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with very ill patients 
  • In depth knowledge of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act 
  • Typing test required (40 wpm) 
  • Ability to work with Web-based programs to review insurance eligibility and benefits
