Under the direction and general supervision of the Registered Nurse-Telemetry Unit or Nurse Manager and possibly under the guidance of the Senior Monitor Technician provides continuous monitoring of patient EKG patterns. Performs clinical duties associated with the monitoring responsibilities. May assist in the training, orientation and guidance of other personnel relating to telemetry. Also, may be responsible for performing 12-lead EKGs, Events, Holters, and Mobile Cardiac Telemetry (MCTs) and associated responsibilities. May assist in the training, orientation and guidance of other personnel relating to telemetry, 12-lead EKGs, Events, Holters and MCTs.
- High school education or equivalent or GED
- Must complete the Navicent Health EKG equipment operation and monitoring, cardiovascular telemetry equipment operation and monitoring, and basic cardiac rhythm training and examination within six (6) weeks of selection or hire. Experienced monitor techs may take the examination immediately and exempt the additional training if successful passing grade is achieved. Thereafter, must validate competency in these areas annually.
- Proof of current Basic Life Support completion through AHA or ARC (Pediatrics and Adults) or obtain within first 6 months of hire. Thereafter, must renew biennially.
- Technical certificate in electrocardiographic technology or equivalent in other healthcare training (e.g., cardiovascular technology, nursing, echocardiography, or medical assistant) from an institution accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges or equivalent accreditation commission preferred.
