Overview

Job Summary

Supports Leadership with efforts in aligning strategic planning, design and construction for each entity and Atrium Health


Essential Functions

  • Interfaces with hospital administration level executives and be seen as a Visual Leader.
  • Guides current and future endeavors utilizing full knowledge and management of the master plans for each entity.
  • Understands the Atrium Health system model of hospital business and communicates impact of projects both operationally and financially.
  • Acts as the hospital representative or owner’s agent relevant to projects for City and State agencies.
  • Manages and leads team members and projects.
  • Motivates, educates and supports team members on current trends within the design and construction industry.
  • Supports all Hospital Engineering / Plant Operations departments at each facility.
  • Develops, approves and maintains proper budgets that may include escalation due to the changes in the construction.
  • Maintains all aspects of project management, including budgets, cost reports, status updates/reports to the appropriate stakeholders, ramp up/move-in, close out of projects and required in service information.
  • Assists and provides, when necessary, the financial information for Capital Budget Requests, long term capital planning, and budget cash flows for each entity and Atrium Health corporate finance
  • Supports leadership with forecasting and managing the workload labor needs, consultant needs, and impacts for the department.
  • Oversees a wide range of project sizes, types, and complexities across multiple campuses and cities.
  • Works with the leadership to establish and enforce design standards with the continuous change of healthcare trends
  • Works with the leadership develop, implements, and measure new process and tools that support the needs of our department.
  • Acts as the lead representative in the areas of life safety, infection control, architectural trends, constructability techniques, sustainable design, Lean Construction methodologies, Prefabrication etc.
  • Supports leadership in overseeing all Sr. Project Managers as they are direct reports to the positions.
  • Acts as an Integrated Project Leader (IPL) as needed and be responsible to assign or help project teams identify the IPL for each project.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for a major portion of the day. Must be able to climb ladders, kneel, crouch and turn in awkward positions to observe work and conditions. Must be able to climb stairs, walk on uneven or unstable platforms. Must have corrected vision. Have ability to sense vibrations and smells. Must have sensitivity to heat and cold.


Education, Experience and Certifications

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing Engineering, Architectural or Construction and 10 years experience in healthcare required or 15 years of healthcare construction or facilities management without a degree. 5 years experience in managing healthcare project teams as it relates to healthcare facilities management or construction management required.

Additional Essential Functions
Operations
• Leads the development of overall policies, guidelines, interdepartmental systems, and procedures within Clinical Operations which include but are not limited to procedure development for patient care, operational flow, technology impacts, security, life safety, and risk.
• Will engage PDC with a common voice to provide communications on building and operations systems to all levels of senior management of both research and academic divisions.
• Assists with the impact review of move plans, develops operational analysis of policy and procedure changes associated with development, and oversees the staffing plans to implement interdepartmental systems
• Assists with activation / occupancy of projects transitions and phasing as it impacts clinical operations and flows.
• Part of a team that touches projects that range from single department impacts to entire building or hospital implementations.
• Part of team that touches ALL aspects of project design, planning, and construction. These areas include but are not limited to design, planning, healing environments, flows (people, patient, equipment, supplies….), technology, equipment, furniture, safety, and operational efficiencies.
Plan Development/Overall Management
• Lead and support our enterprise facility standards to manage the project logistics as our projects drive changes/needs. Understanding/communication of said impacts is key to successfully limiting the impacts to all stakeholders.
• Be aware of all move planning processes/control systems and procedures such as life safety, security, etc.
• Reviews the move organization and staffing requirements which includes all ancillary services such as lab, materials management, patient transportation, etc.
• Assists in the development of and aids in the department move plans related to telecommunications, information systems, CP&M, etc.
• Support the planning and redevelopment of occupied and new construction space across the enterprise.
Facilities
• Directs operational decision support for programming and design of clinical buildings and coordinates the development of the departmental floor plans with department directors and faculty leadership as required
• Provides direction as member of the RFP selection committees and Executive Steering Committee for Capital Projects, with Capital Planning and Management.
• Is aware and stays current with each campus emergency procedures, training, and safety protocols.
• Supports our interiors team with interior impacts, needs, and image communication.
• Engage with our internal signage team to operational review and approval of signage planning and the need for temporary signage and wayfinding
• Assists with telecommunication and data systems planning as it impacts/supports clinical operations.
• Engages as needed to help review the needs for installation of new and reused equipment, furniture, etc.
• Supports facility readiness checks and punch lists with occupants and facilities.
• Coordinates and monitors required actions, including those for clinical regulatory approvals to assure occupancy readiness.
• Stays current with our commissioning agent’s awareness/documentation of facility problems requiring correction prior to occupancy and post occupancy.
Move
• Identifies staffing issues associated with the move period and impact on operations and clinical care
• Serves as the clinical liaison coordinator and director of the clinical move activities
• Develops move training and orientation for inpatient and outpatient units and their representatives in regard to clinical or operational impacts.
• Supports staff move events and planning with appropriate departments
• Monitors progress of move to identify and improve methods of delivery within the centers and departments
• Oversees PDC impacts to operation during capital project moves and phases.
• Plans, implements, and oversees post-Occupancy evaluations across the Enterprise.
