The VP Public Safety will be responsible for oversight, development, and implementation of Physical Security, Public Safety, and Parking strategies and operations in order to protect people, information, and property in all types of Advocate Health Care locations throughout our enterprise. Advocate Health is the fifth largest nonprofit healthcare systems in the nation with 150,000 employees, 67 hospitals and more than 1,000 sites of care.
Major Responsibilities:
• Leads the management of the physical security, public safety, and parking programs across all types of Advocate Health operating units and sites.
• Oversees the development, training and management of a Security and Public Safety team that is committed to the values of Advocate Health Care and prepared to perform their duties in an exemplary manner. Articulates the vision of the Security, Public Safety, and Parking Department.
• Utilizes technical security enterprise and principles to ensure the security of people, information, and property across the enterprise without undue restriction of organizational operations.
• Facilitates the integration of physicians, associates, volunteers, and contractors as integral parts of the Security Team. Sustains and improves a vibrant Security Awareness Training and Education (SATE) curriculum delivered across multiple delivery platforms.
• Leads in the alignment of standards, practices, and priorities of enterprise Security Program operations to increase efficiency, consistency, and reliability.
• Oversees the development, training, and testing of all-hazard business continuity and crisis management plans to ensure the protection of people, data, and property.
• Participates in the organization’s planning and reporting activities. In collaboration with Support Operations leaders, sets goals for the Security, Public Safety, and Parking operations improvement functions.
• Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
• Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
• Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
• Protection Professional (CPP) certification issued by the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) International.
Education Required:
• Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
Experience Required:
• Includes 10 years of management experience in public safety planning, design, engineering and consulting experience in health care operations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
• Strong people management skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and team building skills are essential.
• Basic skills in computer word processing, scheduling and accounting spreadsheets.
• Ability to lead in a highly matrix complex organization.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
• Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
• This position requires travel so the incumbent will be exposed to weather and road conditions.
