Overview

JOB SUMMARY

The Business Strategy Program Manager has overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of assigned strategic programs / projects, project management, and facilitation of market, region or enterprise-wide initiatives at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist.  Additionally, they are responsible for developing and educating less experienced staff in project management operations and practices. Provides leadership to teams with the ability to manage in a matrix environment.

Types of projects include: operational integration, synergy driven initiatives, process improvement initiatives to increase margin and improve patient care, projects supporting clinical integration, projects or programs specifically supporting expansion and growth within the market, to include facility and service line overall growth.

This position provides the candidate with the opportunity to engage with a wide range of departments and numerous diverse leaders which provides significant exposure within the organization. It provides a highly flexible work environment and the ability to have various levels of autonomy.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Engineering or related field required.
  • Ten years' experience as a Program / Project Manager, having had responsibility for numerous large successful projects delivered on time, on budget, meeting client requirements, with high team satisfaction, including complex integration projects, and projects involving a number of project staff and partners.
  • Previous healthcare experience desired.
  • Experience managing multiple large projects with impact across multiple departments.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and vendor resources desired.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION

Project Management Professional (PMP) or Six Sigma Black Belt preferred or able to obtain within 12 months of hire.

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Significant knowledge of project management practices and methodologies
  • Adaptable and flexible to meet the customer’s needs by providing solutions that match deliverables as well as the audience
  • Ability to deliver results with little lead-time, professionalism, and customer service skills are necessary at all times
  • Ability to communicate professionally with all levels of leadership in a concise, clear and timely manner

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Adheres to the established methodologies, practices and procedures for documentation, project management, change management, execution and monitoring to promote accountability. 
  2. Cultivates a collaborative work environment with our customers and ensures delivery of agreed upon functionality.
  3. Defines project scope, budget, goals and deliverables that support the business requirements in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.  
  4. Directs and manages project development from beginning to end including clear and concise timeline expectations to the project team.
  5. Plans and schedules project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.  Coordinates resource estimates and participants needed to achieve project goals.  Negotiates with other department managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the organization when necessary.
  6. Manages proactively changes in project scope, budget, project issues, potential risks, and devises contingency plans.
  7. Develops and delivers status reports, proposals, requirements documentation, change/risk/issue logs, earned value analysis, meeting minutes and presentations.
  8. Manages clinical, business, and vendor resources in a matrix environment working with appropriate management to secure the appropriate resources.
  9. Develops best practices and tools for project execution and management.
  10. Ensures that all projects have a documented return on investment giving specific details and timelines for that return.
  11. Coordinates and ensures that training specific to the project is planned and executed when required.
