Atrium Health Levine Children’s Adolescent Gynecology is looking for an experienced full-time advanced clinical practitioner (ACP) with Women’s Health experience to provide ambulatory pediatric and adolescent gynecology services. Will be working directly with our Pediatric Adolescent Gynecologist, a fellowship trained pediatric and adolescent gynecologist. This clinic cares for patients aged 0-21 with a variety of reproductive health concerns. 

Who can apply:  board certified nurse practitioners (WHNP-BC / FNP-BC / PNP-BC) and/or physician assistants (PA) with at least 2 years of experience or training in women’s healthcare and those with experience in pediatric or adolescent settings will be prioritized.

The provider in this position will manage pediatric and adolescent gynecology outpatient complaints within the clinician’s scope of practice and skill level and in compliance with the rules and regulations set forth by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and North Carolina Medical Board. 

Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (PAG) is a subspecialty within obstetrics and gynecology that focuses on reproductive health from birth to young adulthood.  Patients in this age range often have gynecologic needs that are distinct from adult females.  This subspecialty includes consultation for rare and unique situations including abnormal anatomy, disorders of sexual differentiation, as well as managing reproductive concerns of teens with complex medical conditions (bleeding disorders, childhood cancer, seizures, special needs, etc).  Pediatric and adolescent gynecologists also provide routine care for complaints like contraception management, STI screening and treatment, irregular menses, dysmenorrhea, heavy menstrual bleeding, ovarian cysts, and vulvovaginitis.

Position Highlights:

  • Outpatient Clinic, working under Dr. Erin Cook
  • Monday through Friday (8am – 5pm)
  • Weekends, Holidays not required
  • May be asked to share afterhours or weekend phone calls with MD 
  • Teaching opportunities with residents 
  • $2500/5 days of CME

Position Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program. Current license to practice as a NP or PA in North Carolina. Current prescriptive privileges. BLS for healthcare provider from AHA required. 
  • Nurse practitioners are required to have a master’s degree or doctorate in nursing practice
  • Certification as nurse practitioner from a nationally recognized certifying body required 
  • Physician Assistants with certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred. 
  • +2 years of experience 
  • Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking and interpersonal skills while navigating the care of both patient and their family.
  •  Able to perform thorough history and physical assessments. Also, able to evaluate, assess, and monitor other co-morbid medical conditions. 
  • Proficient in outpatient procedures including IUD insertion/removal, Nexplanon insertion/removal preferred
  • NC Licensure

Essential Functions 

  • Performs new patient consultations including detailed history, pertinent physical exam, assessment, plan of care and communicate plan and recommendations to referring providers
  • Sees patients in follow up, monitors response to treatment, modifies treatments as necessary
  • Communicates effectively with referring providers and works as a team with patient's other subspecialists
  • Performs outpatient procedures within specific scope of practice and skill level (i.e. IUD removal/insertion, Nexplanon removal/insertion)
  • Writes appropriate prescriptions and administers medications
  • Orders and interprets laboratory, POC, and radiology examinations
  • Documents all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medically appropriate manner on the patient's medical record
  • Acts as a patient advocate
  • Attends, participates and contributes to group/practice meetings and development of policies and procedures when requested
  • Utilizes resources, peer-reviewed medical literature, and society guidelines liberally to provide evidence-based care
  • Involves supervising MD when appropriate 

Physical Requirements 

Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Must speak English fluently.  Must possess intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity. Must have the ability to react and perform in stressful situations.
