Overview

This opening is for The Fitness Center at Atrium Wake Forest High Point Medical Center. Group Exercise Instructors are responsible for leading and delivering group exercise instruction ranging in variety and level from aerobic activity, muscular strength, stretch, dance, and yoga or mind body disciplines. This includes developing and organizing choreography, movement sequencing and progression, cueing participants set up, safety, execution, and more. The instructor must be high energy, motivating, and a relationship builder who will help others reach their goals through exercise while having fun. Variable opportunities for classes Monday – Saturday.

JOB SUMMARY:

Assists team members in planning and providing comprehensive therapeutic patient care as part of the functional restoration and occupational rehabilitation programs.  Provides maintenance of treatment areas, equipment, and records.  Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings by reporting patient performance.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
 

  • B.S. in exercise physiology or related field preferred.  Background should include courses in anatomy, exercise physiology, kinesiology or health and sports science
  • Two years of patient care experience preferred in a physical therapy setting
  • Two years documented experience in a personal training or fitness consultant setting preferred
    Working knowledge of weight training and exercise principles

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:
 

  • CPR certification in Basic Life Support, Level C
  • Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S.) or certification through ACSM preferred

2.   Ensures positive patient outcomes.
3.   Coordinates patient activities and assist in clerical duties.
4.   Communicates effectively.
5.   Provides appropriate patient care in accordance with age/developmental guidelines.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
 

  • Ability to understand and communicate medical terminology with therapist and other health professionals
    Experience with computer processing
  • Able to communicate professionally with therapists, patients, and other health care professionals
  • Able to communicate with patients of all age groups and significant others appropriate to level of comprehension
  • Ability to adequately handle groups, i.e., aerobics, exercise classes
  • In-depth knowledge of strength and conditioning and their relationship to rehabilitation
  • Demonstrates flexibility with an ever-changing schedule
  • Demonstrates courteous and respectful communication skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
 

  • Subject to stressful conditions.
  • Moderate noise environment.
  • Clean, well-lit comfortable climate, however, occasional conditions with high moisture content possible.
  • Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens and airborne pathogens.
  • Exposure to chemicals used in cleaning.
  • Occasionally handles emergency or crises situations.
  • Required personal protective equipment:  eye protection, face protection, gown, mask, lab coat, non-sterile gloves.
