The Cardiac Sonographer II performs top-notch cardiac ultrasound scans, provides observation summaries of scans, assists during invasive procedures, manages scheduling and clerical tasks, and contributes to the ultrasound call plan. They also offer guidance and support to other sonographers when needed.

Position Highlights: 

  • Shift Schedule: Monday – Friday 8a-5p; No weekends, holidays, or on-call rotations!
  • Location: Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist - Wilkes Medical Center
  • Clinical Ladder: This position is a level II Cardiac Sonographer on our Clinical Ladder, continuous professional growth offered through this tiered system!

What You’ll Need:

  • Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology or Ultrasound Course, or CMA-accredited Diagnostic Ultrasound Program Required; Associate’s Degree Preferred
    • Completion of Cardiac Ultrasound Training Program Required
  • Valid Sonographer Registration, ARRT(S), RDMS, or RDCS Credentials accepted – required to be registered within 1 year of hire & in Cardiology Specialties within 2 years of hire.
  • Current CPR Certification Required - BLS
  • 5 years of Sonography experience with patients required.  
  • Proficiency in basic echo, stress echo, TEE and 3D or advanced procedures required. 
  • Strong communication skills with diverse age groups and skill levels, and able to foster positive working relationships.
  • Aptitude for mentoring fellow sonographers' and trainees’ work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively & make sound decisions in high-stress settings that require multitasking, organization, and prioritization while maintaining composure.

Job Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  1. Comprehensive Patient Testing: Actively participates in patient testing, handling complex cases when necessary.
  2. Advanced Echocardiography Skills: Excels in advanced cardiac ultrasound, covering various specialized areas of practice; Demonstrates advanced echocardiography proficiency, utilizing real-time and off-line image manipulation techniques utilizing independent judgment – including congenital, myocardial mechanics, 3D imaging, and stress.
  3. Protocol-Driven Excellence: Adheres strictly to established protocols to ensure high-quality echocardiograms.
  4. Physician Assistance and Support: Assists physicians in complex Echocardiography-guided procedures, reducing procedural risks.
  5. Mentorship and Colleague Support: Support and mentor colleagues, aiding in image reviews and providing valuable education; Acts as a preceptor by on-boarding level I Cardiac Sonographers & acts as a resource for procedures + preliminary review of scans.
  6. Contributions to Quality Assurance: Contributes to departmental objectives and supports quality assurance initiatives, acts as functioning site Charge Sonographer.

This position involves potential exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne risks, and varied, unpredictable situations. You'll also handle occasional unpleasant elements, interact with patients in diverse circumstances, and be exposed to cleaning agents and chemicals. Additionally, you may experience high-pressure situations due to multiple priorities, which may result in many workday interruptions.
