JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Education Specialist – Allied Health enhances teammate learning throughout the surgical services department. The primary responsibilities of the Clinical Education Specialist – Allied Health are to expand the clinical knowledge of teammates in the operating room setting. The Clinical specialist will instruct teammates on the fundamental basics of surgery technology in the operating room setting, as well as assist in developing strategies and objectives to improve and maintain clinical expertise in the role of a surgical technologist.
The Clinical Education Specialist helps maintain a safe work environment and performs all related job responsibilities safely. The Clinical Education Specialist maintains clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the population of patients served.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Physical Requirements
Works with occasional intermittent noise and exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, and chemicals. Ability to communicate and write. Strenuous physical effort will require walking, stretching, bending, climbing stairs, twisting, and squatting or kneeling while performing tasks. May have lengthy periods of standing. Requires frequent use of side vision, lifting, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of thirty-five pounds. Use of both hands and all fingers is required for gripping, speed work and precision during the operation equipment/instruments and movement/positioning of surgical patients. Vision and hearing for distances of up to twenty feet is required, depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors is required. Ability to work for lengthy, or irregular work hours, rotating shifts, working on hard surfaces, being near moving equipment, changes in temperature, humidity, and exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens. Must be able to concentrate and apply critical thinking skills.
Education, Training, and Experience:
Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology required. Current certification as a surgical technologist required or 15 years of surgical tech experience.
Minimum five-year operating room clinical experience in the scrub role
Bachelor's Degree in leadership preferred.
Experience in teaching and curriculum development preferred.
CPR Certification required.
