Laboratory Assistant,Biochemistry

Overview

JOB SUMMARY: 

Located in beautiful Winston Salem, this successful Temporary Lab Assistant will  support laboratory operations, perform maintenance functions, and complete non-technical routine laboratory tests and procedures. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

 High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

• Clean, sterilize, and maintain laboratory glassware, instruments, and cages.
• Manage inventory, replacing defective or broken equipment as needed.
• Maintain a sanitized work environment, including proper disposal of contaminants.
• Distribute supplies and assist in setting up laboratory equipment.
• Conduct routine laboratory tests and maintain records.
• Ensure the cleanliness and quality of laboratory equipment and supplies.
• Provide support for animal experiments, including restraint and anesthesia.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.. 

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions 
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others 
• Ability to operate laboratory equipment 
• Knowledge of the maintenance of routine records and reports 
• Ability to learn elementary laboratory techniques and safety precautions 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

Research laboratory environment .Exposure to chemicals. Exposure to glass and other breakable objects. Possible exposure to animals. Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens. May be required to work hours beyond typical 8 a.m.-5 p.m. schedule and/or evenings and weekends as needed.
