Overview

Job Summary  

Plans, organizes, and coordinates all daily operations of the laboratory.  Leads and develops management in the execution of laboratory responsibilities and standardization. Provides direct oversight of the laboratory as one operational unit.

 

Essential Functions  

  • Leads, manages, administers, plans, and support the development and coordination of laboratory-wide process improvements, quality and supports testing operations across all departments of the laboratory.
  • Teaches and develops department leaders to perform roles.
  • Facilitates, audits, and attends daily and leader huddles.  Coaches and develops leaders to huddle processes.
  • Leads and supports the development of solutions for complex problems based on fact, observations, experience, and judgment.  Seeks support as needed.
  • Ensures a high level of quality throughout the laboratory is maintained.  Ensures quality issues are investigated and countermeasures are implemented to prevent reoccurrence.  Ensures abnormal conditions or quality issues are documented and reported.  Ensures all requirements of applicable regulatory agencies (federal, state, local) are always satisfied.
  • Provides input on the development of a long-range strategic plan relative to services, programs, human resources, capital needs and other resource requirements.
  • Ensures annual operations plans with department goals, dashboards, key activities, timelines, and resource requirement are executed. 
  • Works with lab leadership to develop and implement annual operating and capital budgets.  Ensures budgetary goals are met.
  • Ensures the laboratory is adequately staffed and managed.  Coordinates with Human Resources on a continual basis on plans to meet future volume and service requirements.  Recruits, interviews, and selects leaders and team members as needed.
  • Supports the activities of the Lab Director and provides leadership coverage when the Director is not present.

 

Physical Requirements  

Long periods of sitting during analytical procedures. Long periods of standing during harvest procedures. Manual dexterity. Works in an area which contains biohazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Each teammate has the responsibility to work in a safe manner. May be required to stoop, reach, and lift to 50-pound loads. 

Education, Experience and Certifications

Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science, Medical Technology, or related field from an accredited institution) required. Master’s Degree in Health Administration or related field is preferred.  5 years of manager or relevant leadership experience required.
