Overview

Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute’s Interventional Heart Program is seeking a full time, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our growing team. This Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will be part of a growing team of specialized Cardiology Physicians and APPs.

This role will be an integral component of a high functioning multidisciplinary team of providers including cardiology APPs, interventional cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and imaging cardiologists. The successful applicant will be responsible for the management of patients with chronic disease, pre and post management of patients undergoing catheter-based interventions and who have underlying valvular heart disease, heart failure, and/or coronary artery disease. 

This position does not involve performing any procedures, rather this is an inpatient role designed to manage patients pre and post procedurally. Additionally, duties include performing triage for patients with ACS along with admission, rounding, consult and discharge notes on patients in the inpatient and ED setting; along with perform admission and discharge summaries for outpatient same day procedures.

 

Position Highlights:

  • CMC Main is a STEMI center and quaternary care center servicing is a mix of Interventional and Structural Heart Patients. The patient load consists of ACS patients and patients undergoing catheter-based procedures, including transcatheter aortic valve replacements, transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve repairs, PFO closures, and LAA closures. 
  • There are 3 APPs and 6 physicians on the inpatient Interventional/Structural Heart team at CMC. Looking to have 4 inpatient APPs.
  • This role is scheduled as a full time day shift, comprising 40 hour work week, built out as 4 x 10 hour shifts with no weekends, holidays, or call.
  • Inpatient patient panel census varies, though the average patient load is around 10 patients daily.
  • Opportunity to participate in committees, teaching – Opportunities to participate in committees, especially those around improving care for individual service line. APP is expected to participate in education of APP fellows, MD students, residents, or in onboarding of new APPs.

 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and make proactive decisions
  • One or more years of Cardiology experience

 

Education, Experience and Certifications

Must have or be eligible for a DEA license. Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works. Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in NC required. BLS/ACLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice.

  • Nurse Practitioner – Master’s Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required. License to practice as a Registered Nurse required. Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required. Acute Care board certification required based upon population and acuity served.
  • Physician Assistant – Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required; Master’s Degree preferred. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
