Overview
Performs the surveillance activities of the Infection Prevention and Control Program, the ongoing organization-wide process to collect information about deficiencies and opportunities for improvement in the Infection Control program. Prevention and Control activities are initiated daily to provide proactive prevention strategies and expeditious follow-up to hazards, occurrences, and unacceptable outcomes. Provides a liaison association at the department level for ongoing Infection Control visibility, consultation, proactive interventions, and updates pertaining to regulatory agencies such as OSHA, DHR, DNV, CMS and CDC etc. Serves as a multidisciplinary role in which this position is recognized as knowledgeable about Infection Prevention and Control practices pertaining to the Physical Environment, Employee Safety and Patient Safety Standards. Activities focus on program activities that includes participation of all staff to insure positive outcomes related to infection Prevention and Control and safety compliance.
Responsibilities include participating in the collecting, analyzing, and providing infection data and trends to meet the Quality Department reporting responsibilities internally to stakeholders and externally to regulatory agencies, meeting all data submission deadlines. Leads and participates in processes to perform RCAs on infections identified through surveillance activities and by proxy. As risk assessment outcomes dictate, the Infection Preventionist provides education and training; and assists in the implementation of evidence-based infection control practices.
Requirements
Bachelor of Science in nursing preferred
Three years nursing experience
Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia
Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is preferred
