FLSA Status: Nonexempt Original Date: Last Revision: October 2018 JOB SUMMARY: Assists providers with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from clinic services. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma required. Health and wellness degree or phlebotomy certification preferred. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: N/A ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: monitoring schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam; collecting patient history, performing screening per provider guidelines; assisting providers/nurses with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent medical information. 2. Practices sterile technique and universal precautions. Handles blood and body fluids and deals with infectious patients. 3. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; pre-certifications; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. 4. Prepares and sets up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms. 5. Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include: respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to site emergency codes. 6. Enhances professional growth and development through in-service meetings, educational programs, conferences, and participates in committees as requested. 7. Adheres to North Carolina controlled substances regulations. 8. Adheres to site biohazard protocols. 9. Communicates effectively and courteously on the telephone and in person with patients and colleagues. 10. Provides a friendly, safe, timely, quality-driven environment responsive to patient' needs. 11. Actively participates as a team member by supporting decisions, accepting change, managing conflict effectively and valuing the contributions of others. 12. Fosters an environment of mutual respect with special concern for confidentiality and the privacy of others.
