6 Tower is a Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intermediate Care Post-Surgical unit that provides comprehensive nursing care to patients requiring less monitoring than ICU, but more than a Medical-Surgical unit. Nurses on 6T have the opportunity to provide care to a wide array of patients undergoing various surgical procedures including, but not limited to, coronary artery bypass grafts, heart valve repairs and replacements, thoracic and aortic aneurysm repairs, lobectomies, VATS, advanced wound therapies, limb amputations, peripheral vascular bypass grafts and diagnostic cardiac catheterizations. In addition, the clinical nurse on 6T experiences the management of drains, tubes, invasive lines, interprets cardiac rhythms and initiates and monitors cardiac drips.
