Overview

Job Summary

Formulates and defines specifications for complex operating software programming applications, or modifies and maintains complex existing applications using engineering releases and utilities from the manufacturer. Designs, codes, tests, debugs and documents those programs. Usually responsible for applications dealing with the overall operating system, such as sophisticated file maintenance routines, large telecommunications networks, computer accounting and advanced mathematical /scientific software packages.

Configure, install, maintain and troubleshoot complex enterprise voice systems including Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unity Connection, Cisco Contact Center Enterprise, Cisco voice routers, Cisco analog voice gateways, and Calabrio One Call Recording.    Maintain and troubleshoot legacy Avaya Blue digital, analog, and VoIP telephones still in the environment.   Must understand IP networking, voice QoS concepts, carrier SIP, and analog wiring.  Must have own dependable transportation.

 Essential Functions  

  • Maintains within established levels, the technical performance of Unix and mainframe based hardware and software supporting the administrative, financial, patient care, and other departmental computer applications of CHS. Provides responsive support to the application development and operational activities of the IS Department. 
  • Monitors system performance, makes recommendations, and takes appropriate action to insure the best performance per utilization of computer resources. 
  • Advises IS staff on proper data administration and program design to improve capabilities of existing programs and systems. 
  • Supports the HBOC Star and Pathways products and PeopleSoft financial applications from a technical perspective. Also works with other departmental applications on support and setup. Works with vendors on system installation and setup. 
  • Supports all AIX, HP, and Digital Unix operating systems. Supports Technology applications such as Tivoli and Maestro scheduling packages. 
  • Recommends and implements solutions, understanding the ramifications for problems within Information Services. 
  • Defines protocol for working with customers and appropriately balances needs and resources.
  • Develops and implements process improvement initiatives within Information Services. 
  • Understands basic concepts of the budget process. Able to develop and execute a simple project on time and within budget.
  • Maintains within established levels, the technical performance of voice systems supporting the Atrium enterprise, which includes hospitals, medical office buildings, physician practices, administrative and financial offices, and all support facilities.
  • Monitors system performance and takes appropriate action to insure the best performance and utilization of network resources.
  • Supports the Cisco voice systems, working with multiple IS departments and vendors to provide stable and reliable voice communication services.
  • Recommends and implements designed voice solutions, understanding the ramifications for problems within Information Services.
  • Assumes leadership roles on projects and within team.
  • Defines protocol for working with customers and appropriately balances needs and resources.
  • Works well under pressure, able to multi-task.
  • Has working knowledge of basic VoIP, networking, and call center concepts. 
  • Develops and implements process improvement initiatives within Information Services.
  • Understands basic concepts of project management. Able to develop and execute project plans for network system implementations.
  • Work may require interaction with Atrium IS administration.

Physical Requirements

Work is subject to high-level visibility through exposure to Atrium Health administration. This position will require high degree of proficiency in verbal and written communications. Must be available for callback support on a regular basis. This position requires evenings and weekend hours at times for conversions, due to schedules. Employee does not have direct patient contact. Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.

Education, Experience, and Certification

High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or related field preferred. At least 4 years' experience installing and supporting sophisticated voice communication systems in a health care environment preferred.  Cisco voice certification preferred.
