Job Summary: Schedules patient procedures for Surgical Oncology at multiple facilities.  Will be responsible for obtaining pre-authorizations for all procedures. Processes all patient forms such as FMLA, Disability and Return to Work.  Will act as back up for practice assistant as workload requires.  The Scheduling Coordinator acts as the primary interface between physicians and surgery centers and OR staff prior to patient procedures.  This position is critical to customer service delivery to all Surgical Oncology customers be they internal (staff) and external (physician office staff and patients). 

  1. Education:  High school diploma or GED   
  2. Experience:  Minimum 5 years hospital or medical office experience.  Knowledge of basic medical terminology and CPT coding.  Minimum 3-year experience in surgery scheduling or precertification/authorizations or coding and billing. Associates or bachelor’s degree in lieu of experience.
  3. Special Training/Skills:  Must have good computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs.  Must have strong communication skills; verbal, non-verbal, and written.  Must carry themselves in a professional manner, utilizing appropriate social skills when dealing with management, co-workers, physicians, and patients.  Must be able to type 35-50 wpm.  Must have good customer service skills.
