Activity Therapist - Atrium Health Cabarrus - Psychiatric Services - FT Day

Overview

Shift:  8a-4:30p; 40 hrs/wk.

Job Summary

Assists in developing, planning and implementing recreational therapy activities, facilitates recreation therapy groups, and implements interventions, under the direction of leadership.

Essential Functions

• Assists in initiating new programming and expansion or revision of existing programming.
• Acts as representative for recreation therapy department, communicating information, policies, and addressing interdisciplinary issues.
• Responsible for the establishment of an effective documentation program for therapeutic recreation.
• Assists with budget preparation and assures regulation of departmental expenses.
• Establishes yearly goals and objectives that serve as a basis for allocation of time, personnel, and resources.
• Provides training to staff providing recreation therapy interventions.
• Participates in quality improvement studies for the program and provides data for reports.

   

Physical Requirements

 

Must speak English and be able to communicate effectively with residents, visitors and staff. Must have good general vision and hearing, as well as excellent verbal skills and fine motor coordination (finger dexterity), for writing and phone use. Must be able to tolerate prolonged sitting, extensive walking and standing, and occasional lifting. Works in direct resident care area. Works with residents who exhibit a wide variety of disabilities and/or functional levels. Requires lifting, bending, pushing wheelchairs and geri-chairs, and handling equipment. Requires ability to move freely throughout the facility. Requires full range of body motion including bending, stooping, and prolonged standing. Maintaining composure in a busy environment is essential.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Bachelor's Degree in human services field required. 1 year experience in therapeutic activities preferred. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required.
