Position Highlights: 

  • Sign-on Bonus: $15,000 sign-on bonus eligible position, provided the candidate meets the eligibility requirements  
  • Shift Schedule:  Full time (36 hours) Nights, 7pm-7am, with weekend rotation

Residency Program:

Our New Grad Residency Program is a 12-month program that supports newly licensed registered nurses (RNs) as they make their initial transition to practice in one of our five medical centers. The program includes a comprehensive, evidence-based clinical orientation and a nursing professional development transition to practice curriculum. The program's framework is designed as follows: 

  • Over the course of the first three months, you'll have the opportunity to integrate both theory and skills by engaging in live specialty-track clinical academies. These academies will be led by a dedicated team of nurse educators who will guide you through the process. 
  • Continuing from months 3 to 12, you'll be actively participating in a series of education-rich, monthly transition-to-practice nursing professional development workshops. These workshops are designed to further enhance your knowledge and skills in the nursing field. 
  • Throughout this program, you will have the chance to establish strong and cohesive relationships with fellow participants in your assigned cohort. This supportive environment will encourage emotional connections and mutual growth. 
  • As an integral part of your journey, you'll engage in insightful clinical discussions and interactive experiences facilitated by subject matter experts. These sessions will cover essential topics such as professionalism in nursing, critical thinking, patient outcomes, as well as self-care and well-being. 
  • To provide you with personalized guidance and support, the Nurse Residency Program Coordinator will offer individualized mentoring. This guidance will be instrumental in helping you navigate through the program successfully and develop into a skilled and confident nurse.

What You’ll Need:

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. BSN preferred.
  • Registered Nurse licensure from the State of North Carolina
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 1 year of hire for Adult Critical Care, Adult ED
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 1 year of hire for Network ED, Peds ED, PICU and NICU, and other areas per unit guidelines
  • Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively.

 

What You’ll Do:

You will provide nursing care to patients using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You will direct and lead other assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age/developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice.

In addition to participating in the Nurse Residency Program, your job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • 1. Providing Comprehensive Patient-Centered Care: Using the nursing process, address the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs of patients and their families. This involves assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, intervention, care coordination, health education, and goal evaluation, in accordance with WFBMC policies.
  • 2. Ensuring a Safe and Healing Environment: Maintain a secure, therapeutic, and healing setting by respecting patient privacy and upholding professional behavior. Promote technology and equipment usage to enhance safety for both patients and staff.
  • 3. Effective Communication: Communicate efficiently to facilitate information sharing within the care continuum and contribute as a valuable member of the healthcare team.
  • 4. Professional Excellence: Demonstrate professionalism by actively engaging in a professional practice model. This includes participating in shared governance, adhering to care standards, engaging in peer review, and promoting leadership, clinical excellence, teamwork, autonomous practice, acknowledgement of accountability for actions, and critical thinking.
  • 5. Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients in all care settings, including the community, ensuring their needs and rights are upheld.
  • 6. Efficient Care Delivery: Coordinate the effective and efficient delivery of patient care services, applying care management principles, identifying clinical priorities, and taking action to enhance patient outcomes.
  • 7. Professional Growth: Function within a professional practice model by actively participating in shared governance, fostering a healthy work environment, and taking personal responsibility for professional development and growth.
