Overview

Job Summary

Supports Teammates in the execution of the team’s responsibilities. Is responsible for training and coaching teammates, creating and improving standard work and responding to abnormal conditions. Is responsible for problem solving, safety and quality of team’s performance.



Essential Functions

  • Actively looks for ways to improve the performance of the team that will result in improved quality, customer service, productivity and a reduction in spending on reagents and supplies, etc.
  • A minimum of 70% of each day is focused on continuous improvement.
Ensures the quality of testing area of responsibility. Investigates testing quality issues and implements countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence. Documents abnormal conditions or quality issues and provides feedback to appropriate personnel concerning quality issues.
  • Ensures the development of standard work and the training and development of Teammates to the standard work.
  • Audits processes to ensure that Teammates are following established standard work. Coach teammates if standard work is not being followed and informs the Group Leader.
  • Is responsible for supporting the continuous flow of specimens throughout area of responsibility.
  • Ensures point of use storage is maintained, including proper labeling, organization and communication with Materials Management regarding changes in demand, additions and deletions
  • Maintains 5S conditions within area of responsibility to ensure safety and quality standards within the group are maintained. Uses visual control audits as appropriate. Ensures Teammates are wearing proper PPE and are working safely.
  • Monitors the productivity of the team and answers Andon’s promptly for area of responsibility and other Team Leader’s area when appropriates and/or necessary. Provides necessary support for Teammates. Performs any necessary troubleshooting of instruments or other equipment items if possible.
  • Communicates and confirms with the Teammate that they understand what the problem/issue is before closing out the problem.
  • Covers gaps for call outs, project time, personnel need and any unexpected teammate absence.
  • Informs the Group Leader of any personnel situations that might be considered abnormal or extreme. Is a catalyst in launching team building activities and is receptive to trends or changes in team spirit.

    Physical Requirements
    Must speak good English and possess sense of sight, (corrected) hearing, smell and touch. Transfer patients laterally 100lbs., lift patients up to 50lbs. Sitting, standing and walking throughout the day, additionally stair climbing, kneeling, twisting, bending and on occasion crouching, crawling and reaching overhead. Fast pace clinical environment, work primarily indoors, but occasionally outdoors. Must be able to push patients in a wheelchair or on a stretcher.



    Education, Experience and Certifications

    Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy or Master's in Speech Therapy or PTA/COTA Degree with Bachelor's Degree with relevant experience required. Licensed in the state of North Carolina or eligible for reciprocity required. 2 years of work-related hospital experience in physical, occupational or speech therapy required.
