Overview

Job Summary 

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, designs, implements and promotes individualized art/music experiences to assess, treat and evaluate adult oncology patients. Implements programs with individuals as well as groups, to facilitate optimal patient outcomes in areas including, but not limited to, reducing pain and anxiety, improving stress management, communication, emotional expression, and rehabilitative movement therapies in outpatient and inpatient settings. Documents a plan of care, and are relevant to identified patient/family needs, medical diagnoses, and courses of therapy, identified goals of care.

Essential Functions

  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates therapy interventions to contribute to a developmentally appropriate plan of care.
  • Collaborates and communicates in a positive manner with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate attainment of identified patient, family and healthcare team goals of care.
  • Contributes to the effectiveness of the therapy program by promoting and ensuring the delivery of therapy services, maintaining and building own skills in profession of art/music

Physical Requirements

Work requires walking, sitting, standing, lifting, stooping, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, and carrying. Must be able to lift and support 20 pounds of weight, in handling patients, musical equipment and supplies. Essential technical, as well as, fine and gross motor skills required related to performing duties of music therapy as well as documentation.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Bachelor’s Degree required in music therapy. For the discipline of Music National Certification in Music Therapy is required. At least one year’s work experience in the field of healthcare in Music Therapy, with at least one year’s experience in a medical facility working with the adult oncology population, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team. Experience establishing/growing healthcare music therapy program preferred
