Overview

Job Summary

Assists in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. Maintains a clean, safe patient environment and performs job responsibilities in a safe manner. Completes clerical support functions and performs related Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II duties appropriate to the level of Nurse Aide listing with the state.

Essential Functions

  • Provides direct patient care as delegated by the Registered Nurse.
  • Communicates with patients, visitors, physicians, nursing personnel, and various team members.
  • Notifies the physicians of admission, consultation, and other pertinent information as instructed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Completes computer data entry requirements which include order entry, cancellation of procedures, and miscellaneous billing as required.
  • Reviews census, patient type and accommodation codes and updates.
  • Files results and reports and related chart forms in the patient record.
  • Maintains scheduled surgeries, procedures, tests, and pertinent calls to make as required by the unit/department.
  • Maintains reports and logs appropriate to the patient care area and prints reports for manager and charge nurse.
  • Communicates new orders and/or patient requests to the responsible nurse or healthcare team member and follows up with the registered nurse for order verification completion.
  • Utilizes patient labels to identify all related chart forms, requisitions, and identification tags with the correct patient’s name, history, and account number.
  • Performs a verbal or written handoff of pertinent information at the end of each shift with the oncoming unit secretary, healthcare technician, nurse aide, and charge nurse.
  • Prepares and assists with transferring patients, equipment, supplies, or specimens.
 

Physical Requirements

Works consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support weight of 35 pounds in handling patient, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak good, basic English. Intact senses of sight, hearing, smell and touch. Must have manual finger dexterity.

 

Education, Training, and Experience

High school diploma or GED required. Must have completed and approved Nurse Aide Training Program or be a student nurse, meeting the listing requirements of the DFS Nurse Aide Registry. Current listing with DFS Nurse Aide Registry as a Nurse Aide I. May also be a Nurse Aide II.

Minimum of 1-2 years of Acute Care experience preferred

Blood pressure manometer, stethoscope, thermometer, personal protective, personal protective equipment, wheelchairs, stretchers, utility cars, and related clinical equipment, along with a keyboard, computer terminal and printer, FAX machine, telephones, copier, intercom, and materials transport system.
