The Market Chief Human Resources Officer is a leadership role at Atrium Health–Navicent. S/He works closely with the executive teams at Navicent Health, Atrium Health (AH), and AH regional/market affiliates to assure optimal support and service, supporting a talent and people plan that contributes to organizational goals and objectives.

Reporting directly to the Enterprise VP, Regional HR Partnerships with dotted line to the Atrium Health-Navicent President and CEO, the market CHRO will elevate Navicent Health and Atrium Health as a workplace-of-choice through their commitment to organizational excellence in learning, growth and research. As the Market CHRO, this individual will ensure comprehensive, contemporary and effective HR strategies are executed across the market health system and in support of an agile workforce with an expanding “virtual” construct. The CHRO will lead a human resources team prepared to deliver relevant, impactful and measurable services, and consultation to its constituency.

This individual will define the evolving HR integration between Atrium Health and strategic combination partners, Navicent Health, and potentially future regional partners.



  • Will lead the integration and alignment of the market Human Resources function with enterprise Human Resources. Advances the Health System’s human capital agenda including effort to be a great place to work, learn and discover.
  • Oversees and enhances a robust talent management strategy relying on data and analytics to fulfill the organizations’ business and clinical strategies.
  • Provide strategic direction across all Market HR initiatives. Including proactively forecasting to align HR function with future state of system.
  • Market HR point-of-contact for Atrium Health – Navicent CEO, Board, and Atrium Health Leadership. This includes executive presentations, HR business/system enhancement proposals, and providing detailed reporting/updates.
  • Assures total rewards strategies are progressive, competitive, equitable and cost-effective for executives, faculty, and staff consistent with the Health Systems’ compensation philosophy and market conditions.
  • Provides oversight, guidance and leadership in directing the budgeting operations of the Market Human Resources Division to effectively and efficiently manage resources and to meet the overall objectives in a balanced manner.
  • Provides leadership and direction to the following Human Resources departments: Compensation, Benefits, Talent Acquisition (Nursing and Non-clinical), HRIS, Teammate Relations, and works in partnership with the enterprise Chief Talent Officer for leadership to the Organizational Development function.
  • Acts as a Process Improvement Champion related to HR methodology.  Approach problems using a methodical approach and analyze information to make well thought-out decisions.  Determine process improvement needs and facilitate successful implementation by collaborating with team members. 
  • Financial Accountability.  Use allocated resources to achieve desired financial results, while staying within organizational guidelines. Seek opportunities and encourage employees to contain cost, reduce inefficiencies and eliminate waste that will impact the financial resources of the departments/organizations.
  • Fosters and provides leadership in diversity initiatives ensuring the workforce honors inclusion and equity and protects the dignity of all.


The successful candidate will have human resources leadership experience and accomplishments within a complex organization, such as a large, healthcare organization or corporation. Regardless of the type of organization, s/he will have a demonstrated track record of working effectively across all levels.

Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Experience translating and articulating Human Resource strategies that deliver organizational success.
  • Knowledge leading the following areas: HR systems, compensation, benefits, talent management/talent acquisition, learning & organizational development and teammate relations. 
  • Extensive experience presenting to, interacting with, and influencing executives on strategic HR direction.
  • Demonstrated success in, from an HR perspective, guiding enterprise partners through strategic combinations. Includes driving cultural integrations, talent management/strategy, and establishing HR best practices.
  • Progressively responsible track record of demonstrated successes supporting a diverse workforce in planning, organizational effectiveness, problem solving, facilitation, and decision-making skills and competencies.
  • Demonstrated expertise with a record of achievement in presenting and evaluating proactive and competitive human resources practices and recommending course of action for development of senior leadership.
  • Deep understanding of legal/regulatory factors related to human resources management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong presentation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and productively in a collaborative team capacity with creative approaches to organizational development opportunities.
  • Ability to create and implement effective communications strategies to broadly disseminate employee information regarding human resources strategies, objectives, priorities, and accountabilities.

  • Generalist background with broad working knowledge of employment, compensation, benefits, organizational planning, employee relations, labor relations, and learning and organizational development.
  • Strong management and leadership skills. Experience working with decentralized and entrepreneurial business units. Demonstrated knowledge of the laws, regulations, and executive orders relating to human resource and affirmative action/equal employment opportunity issues and concerns.
  • Demonstrated expertise in budget management.
  • Participative management style - advocates team collaboration with strong assertive/persuasive skills. Ability to collaborate with multiple and diverse constituencies with a strong customer service and consultative commitment.
  • Strong understanding of change management and the impact of enterprise change to the local and market environment with proven ability to champion these changes accordingly.
  • Demonstrated strong negotiation skills to successfully manage leadership and employee expectations in Health Systems’ workforce management initiatives or other similarly complex settings.
  • Ability to develop and promote “best in class” total rewards, staffing, development, and performance management of the Health Systems’ staff workforce. History of creating workforce plans and programs that align and support overall strategic objectives.
  • Previous success providing effective coaching to direct reports to optimize their capabilities by providing feedback, advice and suggestions to ensure success.
  • Ability to provide managerial and leadership support as needed; a good, compassionate listener.
  • Unquestionable ethics in establishing a workplace environment that promotes the dignity of people, the diversity of talent while enabling others to serve society.

  • A minimum of eight years’ experience in a complex, progressive human resources environment and five years leadership experience with successful track record of progressive responsibility; "generalist" in all human resource functions preferred.
  • Experience in higher education, academic medical or healthcare industry human resources management preferred but not required.
  • Master’s Degree in business administration, hospital administration, legal or human resources required.
