Job Summary
Professional registered nurse and a designated member of the stem cell/BMT transplant team whose primary responsibilities are directly involved with coordinating the clinical aspects of care. Works with the patients and their families beginning with the evaluation for transplantation and continuing through and after stem cell transplantation, in a compassionate and tactful manner in order to facilitate access to and provide continuity of care. Works with the other members of the transplant team including physicians, nurses, social workers, financial coordinators, apheresis, stem cell processing lab, and administrative team.

Essential Functions



  • Assures the performance of necessary studies to determine a patient's candidacy for for stem cell transplant/ cellular therapy products.
  • Assumes lead in directing responsibility of all patient and family education.
  • Contributes to the education and acts as the resource person regarding stem cell transplantation for all staff nurses.
  • Follows up with lab data, and biopsy results, patient testing results with physicians and communicates changes in medicines with patient.
  • Coordinates comprehensive care with other team members (i.e. financial coordinator, social worker, dietician, etc).
  • Provides an environment conducive to optimal patient care and teammate safety in compliance with all local, state, federal, and institutional guidelines.
  • Evaluates personal performance by monitoring the responses from patients, their families, support teammates, health care team members, and the general public. In addition, further evaluate performance by comparing actual outcome to expectations and regulation.


Physical Requirements
Fast-paced clinic and inpatient setting. Involves standing, walking and bending.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Current NC RN licensure required. MSN preferred. American Board of Transplant Coordinator Certification required within 2 years of hire. 5 years nursing experience required, to include a combination of end stage organ disease and transplant care/exposure, and experience in an outpatient transplant setting. BSN required. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required.
