Job Summary

The Divisions of Pediatric Nephrology and Hypertension and Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep have an opening for a full time pediatric psychologist at Levine Children's.

Pediatric Nephrology and Hypertension: Ranked #20 of U.S. News & World Report listings of “Best Children’s Hospital,” the division is expanding mental heath services to those children, adolescents and families impacted by chronic kidney disease with an emphasis on those with end-stage kidney disease including chronic dialysis and kidney transplantation. Responsibilities include providing inpatient consultation, outpatient therapy, and psychological/neurocognitive assessment for children, adolescents, young adults and their families impacted by chronic kidney disease.

Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep: Join a dynamic, up and coming, multidisciplinary Cystic Fibrosis Center of Excellence.  Initially, .25 FTE will be spent with the Pediatric Pulmonary team to assist in providing psychological intervention to Cystic Fibrosis patients and families. The hope is to have a full time psychologist position in the future for this division.

Program development will be a large part of this position. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in clinical service and experience in a hospital setting and in working with multidisciplinary teams. Opportunities to engage in clinical research exist. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program, at least one year of postdoctoral experience in a medical setting and be license eligible in North Carolina. Annual salary and fringe benefits are competitive. This position carries an appointment in the Department of Pediatrics at Carolinas Medical Center.This is a senior level position that provides psychological services to emotionally disturbed and mentally ill patients in a community mental health setting. The primary responsibilities consist of psychological assessment for diagnostic purposes and direct treatment by individual, family and group psychotherapy.


Physical Requirements
Works in a patient care area with potentially combative or self-destructive patients. Each employee has the responsibility to work in a safe manner. Work requires walking, standing, lifting, reaching, and handling of charts and supplies.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from an APA approved training program required

Must be license eligible or currently licensed as a Licensed Practicing Psychologist from the N.C. State Board of Examiners of Practicing Psychologists required.

BLS HCP certification from AHA required.
