Position Description

The Director I, Executive Communications, will serve as the senior communications counsel for executive team members at Atrium Health. This position is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive, measurable and strategic communications strategy and materials to executive leadership, and strategies and programs to enhance the company’s reputation with key external audiences.

 

This position reports to the Corporate Communications leader at Atrium Health, and will seamlessly collaborate across departments and teams to leverage perspectives and content. This role will serve as a key partner to the executive team, helping them succeed using a variety of methods and tools including internal and external positioning, messaging, speech writing, talking points, development of remarks, scripts and presentations and overall coaching and counseling on communications strategy, presentation and delivery.

 

The qualified candidate will be a confident and strategic communications practitioner, have exceptional writing skills, be adept at problem-solving and anticipating outcomes in order to deliver optimal results and serve as a trusted resource and advisor for the cross-functional communications team and the head of the department.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides strategic counsel to the executive team as a seasoned, confident communications professional with a good sense of judgment and the ability to earn trust.
  • Prepares and implements internal and external positioning strategies for senior level executives.
  • Researches, writes, and prepares remarks, scripts, speeches, talking points, press releases, and blogs.
  • Supports the Corporate Communications team broad communications initiatives by providing executive-level written materials with consistent messaging.
  • Stays up-to-date on healthcare and community issues that may be relevant to executive communications deliverables.
  • Supports writing needs for signature events, annual reports, and other publications.
  • Takes a vested interest in positioning senior leadership both internally and externally with key stakeholders.
  • Partners with appropriate senior leaders throughout Atrium Health to inform and provide perspective to leadership communications efforts.
  • Writes and guides executive speechwriting and the development of communications to influence high-impact target audiences (i.e., employees, media, government, community leaders, etc.).
  • Contributes to the execution of the communications department’s plan and overall communication values, yielding greater employee knowledge and understanding of the business, an engaged workforce, and enhanced company reputation.
  • Supports media relations engagements and external speeches and manages executive events, speaking engagements including planning and logistics.
  • Assists in executive’s visibility in social media and across digital channels.
  • May manage some third-party vendors, including external consultants, designers, printers and freelancers, to ensure strategic and cost-effective use of services.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent project management/organization skills with the ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work well in ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management.

Physical Requirements
Works primarily in office environment. Occasional evening and weekend work. Position requires walking around campus and/or other facilities. Must be able to drive and have access/use of a personal vehicle. Requires reading materials, speaking clearly on the telephone, and operating computer keyboard. Occasional lifting of documents or supplies.


Educational Experience
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree required or minimum of 10 years experience required.
