Job Summary


Levine Cancer Institute (LCI) at Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina is seeking a basic scientist to develop the molecular biology research program in Bladder Cancer. Responsibilities would include leading basic science initiatives focused on bladder cancer and other genitourinary (GU) malignancies, securing research funding from external entities, and overseeing the translational research team and research initiatives for the GU Oncology faculty and medical teams. LCI has a robust clinically annotated tissue procurement program, sophisticated core facilities in both molecular biology and immunology, animal facilities, GU faculty actively engaged in translational research, and a world class clinical trials program. Essential Functions

  • Provides strategic planning for the implementation of expanded clinical and translational research programs for GU tumors and phase I program.
  • Directs ongoing development of the translational research program. Identifies and implements process improvement and operational efficiency opportunities.
  • Provides support to translational research team members and initiatives for the GU oncology faculty and teams. Interfaces with leaders and other administrators as needed.
  • Develops pilot programs to evaluate initiatives and revises as needed prior to expansion to other sites.
  • Identifies potential partnerships to add value to the System. Identifies external funding sources and leads initiatives to capitalize on System strengths to capture such funding.
  • Evaluates emerging technology for implementation.
  • Interfaces with relevant team members from Cannon Research Institute, UNC Charlotte, Virginia Tech Dept of Nano-technology, and David H. Murdoch Research Institute.
  • Interfaces with specimen procurement for Cancer Pharmacology Translational Research.

 

Physical Requirements
Works in a home or office setting. Some travel required. Majority of time is spent working at a desk. Frequently works with computer terminal, calculator and various other office equipment.

Education, Experience and Certifications
PhD required.  Rank of Associate Professor or higer preferred.
